Women’s IPL T20 Challenge is a well known T-20 cricket based tournament established by Board of Control for Cricket in India. Known as Women’s IPL was introduced in 2018 season. In 2018, IPL Supernovas won the match by 3 wickets in a last over thriller. Then, in 2019 the tournament got extended to a three-match tournament. It was the IPL Supernovas who beat IPL Velocity by 4 wickets in second edition and retained their title in the second edition of Women’s T20 Challenge.

This year, it will again be a three team a league based tournament with a three matches followed a final. Earlier, the Women’s IPL was originally scheduled to commence on May 2020 in Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur coinciding with the 2020 IPL’s playoffs. However, it got suspended due to the Covid-19 situations.

Women’s T20 Challenge 2020: Opening date

On 2 August 2020, BCCI confirmed that the tournament would be played between 1 November and 10 November 2020 in the UAE. The tournament was rescheduled to be held from 4 to 9 November 2020 in Sharjah Cricket Stadium. On 11 October 2020, BCCI announced squads and schedule for Women’s T20 Challenge.

The Indian players will complete nine days of quarantine in Mumbai before leaving for Dubai for the Women’s T20 Challenge 2020.

Women’s T20 Challenge 2020: Squads

Women’s T20 Challenge 2020 will have three teams. The three teams are- 1. IPL Supernovas, 2. IPL Trailblazers, 3. IPL Velocity.

IPL Supernovas will be captained by the current Indian Women’s Team Captain Harmanpreet Kaur. IPL Trailblazers will be lead by the dashing opener of Indian team, Smriti Mandhana. The veteran Mithali Raj will lead the IPL Velocity side.

Women’s IPL 2020 will miss some key foreign players like Sophie Devine, Suzie Bates, Nat Sciver, Stafanie Taylor, Amelia Kerr, Lea Tahuhu and Hayley Matthews who will be busy  2020–21 Women’s Big Bash League season in Australia.
